Springfield Farmers Market Manager

The Farmers Market Manager will be responsible for daily operations of the Market. The Market Manager is the “go-to” person for vendors and consumers during market hours, and is the EBT / SNAP representative on site. The job requires strong organization skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of people from all walks of life. The Manager’s general responsibilities include: fostering community support for the market, helping promote the market, and keeping accurate weekly records of market activities. Successful Managers understand both the vendors’ and the consumers’ needs and will design and implement strategies to meet these needs. The Manager is required to be on-site at market and available to vendors and consumers at all times during market.
 
Our organization seeks to hire a team of 2 or 3 managers to oversee our Northern Virginia markets in Reston, Chantilly, Oakton, Springfield, Tysons, and Gainesville.

Essential Responsibilities:
Communicate and coordinate with a group of farmers and food producers for each market day
Arrive at market approx. 1.5 hours before opening to coordinate market set-up and stay at market until all vendors have left (no more than 1 hour after market closing, except on rare occasions)
Ensure the safety and cleanliness of the site before, during and, at the conclusion of each market
Assist customers and market vendors with questions during market day
Operate market ATM / EBT machine as needed
Ensure timely collection and reporting of market tokens
Enforce market rules and regulations
Conduct marketing and outreach support as able
Track weekly market attendees, sales, and other metrics as required
Submit the Post Market Manager report after each market is closed
 
Other Responsibilities:
Assist vendors by providing limited set up help and brief personal breaks during busy times as appropriate
Assist vendors, community representatives, and consumers with market and program information, conflict resolution, and general aid as appropriate
Work with market volunteers as able to accomplish market goals
Perform other duties necessary to support the market
 
Experience: The ideal contractor will be be reliable, friendly, self-motivated, and have access to a vehicle. Interest in local food systems, agriculture, community outreach and engagement, or previous farmers market manager experience is a plus.

Ability to effectively communicate and work with diverse individuals
Willing and able to work outdoors and to safely lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
Must be able to work independently and responsibly
Highly self-motivated and organized
 
Compensation:
 
This position is paid a flat rate of $126 / week on a contract basis. The individual must be present at market and complete other small tasks via email or computer as assigned throughout the week.
